Privacy policy

Last updated: 27 October 2026

Tangy is a Chrome side-panel assistant. The extension has no Tangy server, no accounts, no analytics and no ads. This policy covers the Tangy extension and this website, including the optional sign-up list.

What Tangy stores, on your own computer only

Your chat history, facts you ask it to remember, usage counts, settings and your API key. These live in Chrome’s extension storage on your device. Nothing is sent to Tangy’s developer. You can turn history off in Settings, and delete everything from Menu, then Privacy, then “Delete everything Tangy stored”.

What leaves your computer

  • Your messages, plus page text, selected text, files, and bookmark or history results that you choose to include or that a question needs, are sent to the AI provider you selected in Settings (Anthropic, Groq or Google Gemini), using your own API key, under that provider’s privacy terms. Tangy reads a tab only when you ask.
  • Your API key is sent only to the provider it belongs to, as the login for that request.
  • Voice input uses Chrome’s built-in speech recognition, which sends your audio to Google’s speech service to turn it into text. Tangy never receives, records or stores the audio, only the text. Read-aloud uses the voices on your device.
  • Commands such as “search for …” open a Google or YouTube results page in a new tab, so your search words go to that site exactly as in a normal search.

Permissions and why

  • sidePanel: shows the Tangy panel.
  • storage: keeps your settings, history, memory and key on your device.
  • activeTab and scripting: read the page you are on, and scroll it, only when you ask.
  • contextMenus: the right-click actions (ask, explain, summarise, rewrite, translate).
  • alarms and notifications: set reminders and show them when due.
  • tabs, tabGroups (optional): list, switch, group and close tabs, only if you press Allow in Settings.
  • bookmarks, history (optional): find and add bookmarks and search your history, only if you press Allow in Settings. Results are shown on your computer and sent to your chosen AI provider only if your question needs them.
  • Address-bar keyword “tg”: a shortcut to ask Tangy from the address bar.
  • Host access to api.anthropic.com, api.groq.com and generativelanguage.googleapis.com: to talk to the AI provider you chose, and nowhere else.

Sign-up list (the only personal data this website collects)

If you use the sign-up page, we collect your email address, and your name and what you would use Tangy for only if you choose to type them. We use them to email you Tangy news, such as the Chrome Web Store launch and Tangy Plus, and for nothing else. This is a mailing list, not a user account. Our legal basis is your consent, which you give by ticking the box.

  • Who handles it: the form or email service we use to receive sign-ups, acting for us. Until a form service is connected, the form opens an email from your own mail app to our support address.
  • How long: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, and we will clear the list if we stop sending news.
  • Your choices: unsubscribe from any email, or write to us to see, correct or delete your details. We act on requests promptly.
  • Never: sold, rented, or used for advertising or to train AI.

Accounts and log-in

There are no user accounts today, and the Tangy extension needs none. The log-in page only says so. If accounts launch with Tangy Plus, this policy will be updated first to say what we store, where, and for how long.

This website

This website sets no cookies, loads no third-party scripts, fonts or trackers, and collects no personal data except what you choose to enter on the sign-up page. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security and operation.

Not collected

No analytics, no ads, no tracking. We do not sell or share user data, use it for anything unrelated to Tangy’s purpose, or use it to decide credit or lending. Passwords, keys and card numbers are never saved on purpose.

If Tangy Plus launches

A hosted option would send your requests through a Tangy server to an AI provider. That would be a real change from today, when the extension has no Tangy server at all. Before it launches, this policy will be updated to say exactly what that server receives, how long it is kept, and who processes it. You will always be able to keep using your own key instead.

Your control

Remove any permission in chrome://extensions, delete your key or data in Tangy’s Settings and Privacy pages, or uninstall the extension to remove everything it stored.

Children

Tangy is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
